Abby J. Bauer joined the magazine staff as an Associate Editor in February 2013. She covers animal health, dairy housing and equipment and nutrient management.

Previously, Abby worked for 6-1/2 years as an agricultural extension agent based in Oconto County for the University of Wisconsin. There she worked with dairy and livestock producers on the farm and through educational programming. As part of her job, she wrote a weekly newspaper column, extension newsletters and articles for other publications. In addition, she regularly contributed to a local radio show and gave numerous presentations. She co-chaired the Midwest Manure Summit and was editor of the Dairy Partner/El Companero, a bi-monthly newsletter written in English and Spanish and geared towards dairy farm employees.

Abby grew up on her family's 150-cow dairy farm in Plymouth, Wis. The farm is currently managed by her parents and brothers. She remains active on the family operation by milking cows and feeding calves when she is able.

A 2005 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Abby majored in dairy science and life science communications. In college, she was a member of the Badger Dairy Club, the Association of Women in Agriculture and the dairy cattle judging team. She also completed a master's degree in agriculture education and extension from North Carolina State University.
