Longevity and milking persistency finally paid off for a Maryland cow on Wednesday, when the American Jersey Cattle Association named her the breed's Living Lifetime Production Leader for 2010. She had been runner-up the previous two years.
Calving at age 13-09, Queen-Acres Barber Booper (VG88) ran her lifetime totals on December 31, 2010 to 306,145m 14,664f and 10,520p (actual) to move into first place. She was bred and is owned by Rebecca Lippy of Keymar, Md.
Booper's persistency is seen in her remarkable lifetime production average of 81.4 pounds of milk per day with 4.79 percent fat and 3.44 percent protein. She was milked 3x during her yearling lactation, but 2x during the other nine. Three of those were over 30,000 pounds, and her top record was as an 8-year-old when she made 40,616 pounds in 365 days.
The previous Living Lifetime Production Leader and the breed's all-time production leader was Duncan Hillbrite of Family Hill owned by Ryan Lancaster of Tillamook, Ore. Her lifetime totals were 343,620m 16,070f and 12,601p (actual).
