New dairy showmanship scorecard, but same great experience
Over the holidays, we will be sharing some of our most-viewed blogs of 2012. If you missed them earlier, we've got them ready to close out 2012.
Judges and youth need to be aware of recent PDCA changes.
by Patti Hurtgen, Hoard’s Dairyman Online Media Manager
In the Fall of 2011, the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association (PDCA) updated their showmanship scorecard. The committee felt the scorecard should more accurately reflect how showmanship is evaluated. They removed the strict-point system allocated to leading, posing and appearance, just to name a few, and replaced it with a discrimination system of slight, moderate and serious.
We prepared a video of Peter Coyne, a showmanship judge, talking about his interpretation of the PDCA changes and how he plans to evaluate showmanship exhibitors under the new PDCA Showmanship Evaluation guidelines. This fall, Peter remarked to our staff that many people have seen the video and told him that they appreciated the explanation of the new rules. If you work with youth or judge shows yourself, it is worth a view to understand the new guidelines.
