Wolfe's Neck Farm is now accepting applications for thier newly launched an organic dairy farmer training program on our farm in Freeport, Maine. This is an intensive, experiential 18-month residential program that offers a high degree of support to help new organic dairy farmers start their own operation.

Ideal applicants will have dairy farm experience and are certain that they want to be a dairy farmer. The curriculum provides a solid background in the fundamentals needed to start and manage a dairy farm (business management, pasture and soil management, and animal health are the main areas we'll focus on). Our team of experts provides specialized support through training, securing financing, locating land, and during the first few years of operation.

Rebecca Brown is the new Dairy Program Director at Wolfe's Neck Farm. Becky is a leading innovator, farmer and educator. She grew up on a farm and has been involved in farming her entire life. Becky worked on dairy farms for a year in New Zealand and has managed pasture-based dairy farms in the U.S. From 2009-2011, Becky was the Pennsylvania Regional Director and Biological Farming Consultant for Midwestern Bio-Ag, where she primarily worked with dairy farms. From 2012 to present she has been an Educator for the Ohio-based Farm to Consumer Foundation, lecturing throughout the Northeast about soil health and related topics.

This growing season, Becky will lead the training and dairy operations at Wolfe's Neck. Four students are being accepted at a time, with a new class starting every summer. Wolfe's Neck Farm has recently begun recruiting for the first class of students. While this is a combination tuition and paid position (hourly, fair market wage), the tuition for this first class is being waived via a scholarship. For the right person, this is a very robust opportunity.
