The Dairy Calf and Heifer Association (DCHA) congratulates Erika Nagorske of Falcon Heights, Minn. as the 2016 recipient of their annual $1,000 scholarship.

Nagorske is a fourth-year student at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. She earned a bachelor's degree in animal science with a pre-veterinary emphasis in 2012 from the University of Minnesota. Her internship experiences include positions with Trans Ova Genetics and Zoetis.

Nagorske"Without a doubt, Erika is certainly one of the very best," says Dr. Sandra Godden, associate professor at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. "I first had the opportunity to work with Erika three years ago when she was a summer research technician assisting with a colostrum management field study. The project required her to work on a large commercial dairy, alongside dairy management and staff, enrolling newborn calves into the colostrum study, weighing and feeding them and collecting the necessary biological samples. She proved herself to be an incredibly bright, hardworking and technically proficient individual."

After graduation, Nagorske plans to work at Worthington Veterinary Medical Center in Worthington, Minn.

"I am most passionate about dairy calf and heifer management," says Nagorske. "I believe pairing my veterinary knowledge and experiences with consulting skills will help producers become more efficient and profitable while keeping animal health and welfare a top priority."

DCHA annually awards a scholarship to an outstanding agriculture-focused student with the goal of supporting the future of the dairy industry.

The Dairy Calf and Heifer Association (www.calfandheifer.org) was founded in 1996 based on the mission to help dairy producers, calf managers and those professionally focused on the growth and management of dairy calves and heifers.
