The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Dairy Science will host its first-annual Dairy Science Showcase on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dairy science alumni and stakeholders are invited to join in a conversation about the department's current research, extension efforts, and instructional initiatives.

Attendees will meet the department's three newest faculty members and learn about their program areas. The entire faculty and staff plan to discuss the latest in nutrition, physiology, management, and genetics. A poster session will give participants an opportunity to talk with current MS and PhD students and learn about specific research projects. The department will also honor scholarship recipients and host a complimentary dinner.

Kent Weigel, professor and chair of the dairy science department, says that the Showcase was created with the idea of promoting dialog among the department, its alumni, industry allies, farmers, and supporters. "We want to provide a forum for gaining feedback from stakeholders regarding new or proposed developments in our teaching and extension programs," he says. "We also want to recognize the invaluable individuals and companies that have contributed to the success of our programs in recent years."

The event will begin with a "State of CALS and UW Dairy Science" presentation at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29. The current research panel discussion and poster session will follow. A reception with cash bar will begin at 5:15, followed by a complimentary dinner for all registered attendees. All activities will be held at the UW-Madison Arboretum Visitor Center, 1207 Seminole Highway.
