Jersey Youth Academy is an intensive educational program focused on the Jersey cow and the various elements of the Jersey dairy business.

Youth who will be seniors in high school in the fall of 2015 through those with at least one year remaining in their degree program at an accredited vocational school, college or university are eligible to apply. Applicants must be legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. A youth can participate in Jersey Youth Academy only one time.

Next year's class will meet leaders from the Jersey community and the support industry, and gain their unique insights about the dairy business with a specific focus on the Jersey cow. They will also tour Jersey operations and milk processing facilities, and participate in hands-on workshops ranging from linear type evaluation to marketing and promotion.

The deadline for applications is Monday, December 1.

WANT AN INTERNSHIP? APPLY FOR THE STOUT EXPERIENCE AWARDS

High school graduates who have a strong desire to pursue a career in managing and/or marketing Registered Jersey™ cattle are encouraged to apply for the Fred Stout Experience awards.

Two awards will be offered: (1) a summer marketing internship with Jersey Marketing Service, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and (2) an on-farm, structured internship in Jersey herd management.

These are presented annually in memory of Fred J. Stout Sr., Mt. Carmel, Ill., a lifelong Jersey breeder and member of the Jersey Marketing Service staff from 1978 to 1997 who believed that the best learning experiences happen in the everyday world.

When you transfer the animals you sell, you'll demonstrate not only your pride in being a breeder of Registered Jerseys, but also:

  • Promote your herd and genetics
  • Gain wider exposure for your prefix
  • Build your own pedigrees by how those animals perform in their new homes
  • Generate repeat business from satisfied buyers

Between now and December 8, take advantage of Time 2 Transfer. Every animal you've sold since January 1, 2011 can be transferred at the under 60-day fee. That's a savings of $3.00 per animal for non-REAP herds, and $5.00 for those enrolled on REAP.

The price drops another $2 per animal when you use infoJersey, or submit in groups using Excel spreadsheets, reports generated from herd management software, or field-delimited text files.

Contact the helpful staff in Herd Services and your AJCA-NAJ Area Representative for more information.
