"In the past year we have witnessed some of the most dynamic growth in the history of Select Sires," explained Myron Czech, chairman of the board of directors from Little Falls, Minn., during his annual meeting address. "As we enter our 50th year of business, it is important that we look back at what made Select Sires the success it is today. Even more important is that we use those lessons to create a successful path forward."

Czech continues as chairman of the board of directors while Dan Andreas, Sugar Creek, Ohio and Dorothy Harms, Reedsburg, Wis. serve as first vice chairman and second vice chairman, respectively. Craig Fledderjohann, Saint Marys, Ohio and Mark Van Mersbergen, Lynden, Wash. replaced retiring board members Tom Fleming, Harrod, Ohio and Walt Stornetta, Manchester, Calif. Dan Mielke, Colby, Wis. was elected to fill a new position on the board.

Other board members include: Pete DeGroot, Fresno, Calif.; Randy Kortus, Lynden, Wash.; Chad Steinberger, Windthorst, Texas; Dick Piechowski, Waupaca, Wis.; Mike Heckaman, Argos, Ind.; Larry Voigts, Platteville, Wis.; Bruce Epley, Waverly, Iowa; Johnny Daniel, Charlotte, Tenn.; Wynn Gibbons, Lewiston, Utah; Duane Koester, Wadesville, Ind.; Dr. Mark Tatarka, Bozeman, Mont.; Steve Craun, Bridgewater, Va.; Dr. Robert Cruikshank, Ogdensburg, N.Y. and Leigh Lane, Blanch, N.C.

The Holstein and Jersey sire committees, consisting of customer-owners from each of Select Sires' nine member cooperatives, met to discuss the direction of future sire acquisitions. Customer-owners, members of the board of directors and employees from each of the nine member cooperatives also participated in a number of other committee meetings. At the employee awards program, 27 employees were honored for 515 years of total service to Select Sires Inc.

Based in Plain City, Ohio, Select Sires Inc. is North America's largest A.I. organization and is comprised of nine farmer-owned and -controlled cooperatives.
