PDPW logoKansas farmer and YouTube sensation Greg Peterson will be one of the featured speakers at the 2015 PDPW Youth Leadership Derby, a career exploration event to be held April 18-19 at Waupun High School in Waupun, Wis. Students age 15-18 will have the opportunity to "dive in, dissect and discover dairy careers" at this lock-in style event, developed by Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW).

Unique, hands-on learning experiences will be offered, including a dissection lab with veterinarians at Hilltop Dairy near Waupun, Wis., and group activities designed to increase confidence and leadership abilities. In addition to featured speaker Greg Peterson, All American Track Star Eddie Slowikowski will motivate with a high-energy message on what it takes to be a winner.

A panel discussion will focus on careers related to Wisconsin's $43.4 billion dairy industry. Then, a choice of sessions will allow students to learn about careers in agriculture-related fields, including:

  • "Dairy Food Science" led by Tom Zinnen from the University of Wisconsin Biochemistry Department
  • "Ag-Advocacy through Social Media" led by Greg Peterson and PDPW
  • "AI Careers and Sire Selection" led by expert from Alta Genetics
  • "From Seed to Feed" with scientists from Dairyland Seeds
  • "Finance Fundamentals" with expert from Badgerland Credit

Students who have an interest in real-world science, food production, business and hands-on agriculture are invited to attend. Students do not need to have farm experience to participate. To view a brochure or to register, visit www.pdpw.org, or call 800-947-7379.

Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin is a dairy-producer founded organization that provides educational programs and services to fellow dairy producers. PDPW's mission is "to share ideas, solutions, resources, and experiences that help dairy producers succeed."
