3-Part PDPW World Class Webinar Series on 'OSHA Inspection Preparedness' Starts Wednesday, December 17

A three-part World Class Webinar series hosted by Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW) will help dairy producers and other industry professionals understand the importance of proper health and safety procedures and prepare for inspections that may be conducted on farms by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The interactive webinars will be led by expert personnel at the DeWitt, Ross & Stevens Law Firm, which has particular expertise in agricultural law. Understanding the law is one step toward ensuring proper action and compliance. Topics for this webinar series include:

  • "OSHA Compliance: Know What It Means for Your Farm" will be offered on Wednesday, December 17. This session will cover what falls under OSHA regulations, the impact of OSHA's Dairy Farm Local Emphasis Programs on Wisconsin dairy farms, and items subject to OSHA field inspections. Register for this session by December 10.

  • "Answers to Two Key OSHA Questions" will be offered on Wednesday, January 7 and will cover two important questions to which dairies should know the answers: 1) What should we do if an OSHA inspector comes to our dairy farm, and 2) What happens if our dairy farm receives an OSHA citation and notification of proposed penalty? Legal counsel from DeWitt, Ross & Stevens will discuss best practices for conducting OSHA inspections, including interviews with employees and contractors. Further, this session will discuss the meaning of an OSHA citation and a Notification of Proposed Penalty. Attendees will learn the steps during OSHA's enforcement process, including settlement negotiations and hearings. Register by December 31.

  • "The Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act" will be offered Wednesday, February 11 and will explain this federal statute, which often becomes an issue at the time of an OSHA inspection. Failure to understand this act can lead to further enforcement issues by the Department of Labor, and may result in penalties beyond OSHA. Understanding how OSHA and the Department of Labor are connected can ensure proper compliance and interaction with both oversight agencies. Register by February 4.

All three "live" webinars start at noon Central Standard Time (CST) and run for 60 minutes, including interactive question and answer time. Register for PDPW's World Class Webinars by calling PDPW at 800-947-7379, or visit www.pdpw.org.

Registered participants can watch a fully recorded version of the webinar after the event at their convenience, as long as they are registered prior to the event. Registration is for one computer, allowing a business to gather as many people around a computer for each session as they wish to gather.
