Michigan Milk Producers Association Backs Investment in State's Roads
The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) board of directors recently voted to support the passage of Proposal 1, projected to add an estimated $1.3 billion to road funding.
"The dairy industry depends on well-maintained roads. Whether securing the inputs we use to produce milk or transporting milk from our farms to processing plants and consumers, the dairy industry relies on roads and bridges," MMPA President Ken Nobis says. "Poor roads and bridges increase the cost and decrease the efficiency of delivering dairy products to consumers' tables."
The agriculture industry relies on roads and bridges to transport food inputs, machinery, crops, livestock and finished goods to and from consumers. Deteriorating road conditions have impacted farm machinery as well as the safety and efficiency of agricultural production, causing MMPA to take action.
"Nobody likes to see their taxes increase, but we don't see a viable alternative to fund the costly, extensive repairs. Fixing the roads and bridges is imperative if we hope to continue to grow the Michigan dairy and agriculture economy," Nobis adds.

MMPA is owned and controlled by nearly 2,000 dairy farmer members located throughout Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin. MMPA markets over 4 billion pounds of milk a year.
