Midwest Dairy Association Salted Caramel Puff, made with Minnesota dairy farmers' secret, State Fair-recipe vanilla ice cream or malt, topped with creamy caramel sauce and finished with the perfect salty crunch of Old Dutch Puffcorn, will join the traditional ice cream tastes at Midwest Dairy's Dairy Goodness Bar at the Minnesota State Fair this year.

The flavor, picked through a public poll in May, outdistanced Chocolate Ripple Effect, made with potato chips and chocolate ice cream, and Sweet Honey Cornbread, featuring cornbread chunks drizzled with honey, to earn its spot on the menu. The new item appears is among 11 new frozen treats being introduced at the Fair and featured on its new foods list released to the public today (June 23).

"It was time to shake things up a bit," said Jodi Jetson, Midwest Dairy's Minnesota State Fair project manager. "We wanted to see what other flavors might get fair-goers excited about what dairy farmers have to offer." During early May, the public chose from the three flavors by visiting MidwestDairy.com.

Jetson plans to feature Salted Caramel Puff for only one year, and ask fair-goers write in suggestions for new flavors while visiting the Dairy Goodness Bar in 2015. After picking the top three suggestions, plans call for a poll to choose a featured flavor again in 2016.

The Dairy Goodness Bar, located in the Dairy Building, is one of the State Fair's most popular concessions and is owned by the state's dairy farm families.
