SCR Dairy announced today the addition of Dr. Gláucio Lopes of Madison, Wisconsin, to its U.S. team.

In his new role, Dr. Lopes will serve as a large herd manager and reproduction specialist. His responsibilities will include support of the SCR monitoring system for veterinarians, consultants and nutritionists to help them better connect the cow's activity, health and rumination to their ration and environment. He also will lead training for Heatime® Pro software, specifically related to multilanguage teams on dairies.

"Dr. Lopes' broad experience in reproduction and increased performance on both national and global scales makes him an excellent addition to SCR Dairy," says Tom Breunig, general manager, SCR Dairy. "His knowledge will help SCR customers better utilize the data provided by the SCR monitoring system to improve productivity on the farm."

Prior to joining SCR Dairy, Lopes worked at Accelerated Genetics as a reproduction specialist, where he lead a support team that proactively improved reproduction performance in large herds both nationally and globally. During his time with Accelerated Genetics Lopes had the opportunity to develop a volunteer program in Uganda to support the CNFA – Farmer to Farm Program. His work focused on guidance of small farmers to improve artificial insemination techniques, breed selection, management of common cattle pests and insects, and handling of animal food.

"Gláucio's global experience will enable SCR to interact with all team members on the dairy," Breunig adds. "We're thrilled to bring Dr. Lopes' vast knowledge and expertise to SCR to better serve our customers by opening the door for increased communications both within dairy teams and between the dairy and SCR."

Prior to joining Accelerated Genetics, Lopes spent time as a practicing veterinarian for commercial dairy operations, and was involved in multiple university research projects. This included time with the Veterinary Medicine Teaching and Research Center (VMTRC), in Tulare, California, where he worked in several research studies focused on reproduction of dairy cows and heifers; calf management, growth, and feed additives; and, dairy production and health in large dairy farms in the San Joaquin Valley. Dr. Lopes' experience with large herds makes him a perfect fit for the SCR large herd management position.

Dr. Lopes received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Universidade Federal Fluminense in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro state in 2006. In 2011, he received his Master of Science degree in reproductive physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, Wis. He is also a member of American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) and serves on the Educational Committee for the Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council (DCRC.)
