LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin), the extended-release cattle dewormer from Merial, has been selected as the winner of the Animal Pharm award for Best Food Animal Product 2014.

The judging panel selected LONGRANGE as it has been widely beneficial for both veterinarians and cattle producers, due to its ability to provide season-long parasite control.1

LONGRANGE incorporates eprinomectin in a dosage form, which results in the first and only product that provides persistent nematode parasite control for up to 150 days following a single dose.1,2 The dewormer is administered subcutaneously at a conventional treatment site in the front of the shoulder.2

According to Merial, the period of protection is long enough to break the parasite life cycle and can replace as many as three or four conventional treatments to afford season-long control in many cases.3,4,5,6

The ability to provide this duration of protection with a single treatment also results in reduced labor for producers, as well as less cattle stress and shrink.

The ability of LONGRANGE to provide a long-lasting effect is possible due to THERAPHASE™ Technology, which releases the active ingredient for an extended period.2

LONGRANGE: Making an Impact

"Merial is honored that our innovative parasite control product – LONGRANGE – has received Animal Pharm's distinguished award for Best Food Animal Product 2014," said Henry Berger, the company's global head of large animals and veterinary public health strategic development.

"Our veterinarian customers, as well as cattle producers, have responded extremely well to the launch of LONGRANGE, the first extended-release injection that delivers up to 150 days of parasite control in a single dose.1,2 The excellent results they see in long-term cattle parasite control and enhanced beef production reinforce the value this product delivers."

"From our R&D team that worked tirelessly to develop this novel formulation to our team in the field that is proud to sell such a game-changing product every day, we are gratified by the impact LONGRANGE is making on our customers' business."

Susan Cady, director of formulation development for Merial, added, "Development of LONGRANGE, an injectable liquid formulation of eprinomectin with the benefits of an extended-release product, required a high level of scientific expertise, persistent commitment to navigating new territory, and extensive collaboration across many business functions.

"After testing several formulations, developing a novel in vitro test methodology, and conducting more than 40 pivotal safety and efficacy studies, it's very rewarding to see the success of LONGRANGE in the market."
