New Have U Herd? online column features Wisconsin cows

Wisconsin Milk Marketing BoardThe Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board is launching Have U Herd?, a new column on DairyDoingMore.org that will provide fascinating facts and insights about one of Wisconsin's treasures: dairy cows.

"These milk-producing mammals are not only the state's claim to fame," says James Robson, CEO of WMMB, "they are also world-class milk producers, natural recyclers and economic engines that keep farm families and America's Dairyland thriving."

Starting September 30, viewers can find this column on DairyDoingMore.org, and there will be fresh material each day during World Dairy Expo. The inaugural column will highlight new economic impact numbers just released by the University of Wisconsin-Extension and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "These numbers reveal just how big dairy cows are to Wisconsin," adds Robson. "Dairy continues to flourish as a strong and vital industry in our state."

To help generate awareness of Have U Herd?, WMMB is having a Selfie contest during World Dairy Expo. Contestants can snap a selfie with a "Have U Herd?" talking bubble and post it to www.Facebook.com/dairydoingmore with hashtag #haveuherd. These talking bubbles will be available in the WMMB booth, Exhibition Hall 6304-6307, in the Expo Daily Edition newspaper and online at DairyDoingMore.org. More contest details and official rules are also available on the site.

"While Wisconsin has long been known as ‘America's Dairyland,' many consumers have few connections to farming today," states Robson. "Our goal is to give our non-farm neighbors a better understanding of where their food comes from and why dairy is so important to the state."
