Four Select Sires Earn Gold Medal Status

Select Sires logo7HO10606 De-Su OBSERVER-ET (EX-90-GM), 7HO10356 De-Su WATSON (EX-90-GM), 7HO10297 Foxberry Bax MCNUGGETS-ET (GM) and 7HO8747 End-Road O-Man BRONCO-ET (EX-93-GM) were named Gold Medal Sires by Holstein Association USA, following the August 2013 sire summaries, in recognition of their officially tested and classified offspring’s superior type and production.

To qualify for this honor, bulls must meet a specified type level for Total Performance IndexSM (TPISM), have a minimum Reliability of 90 percent for their Fat and Type genetic evaluations and be free of all recognized genetic defects. This award is only given to about 25 Holstein sires each year, putting these four sires in elite company.

OBSERVER ranks high for Productive Life (PL) (+5.5), Net Merit (NM$) (+630), Cheese Merit (CM$) (+643), Fluid Merit (FM$) (+620) and GTPI (+2144). His daughters are moderate in stature with exceptional udders (+3.02 Udder Composite). This HealthMark™ and FeedPRO® sire is a perfect fit for your heifer breeding program with a low Calving Ease score (6.1% DBH).

WATSON hails from the same family as OBSERVER and transmits several of the same traits. With high NM$ (+611), CM$ (+723) and GTPI (+2109), WATSON sires offspring that are the total package. His daughters produce milk that is high for components (+.17% Fat, +.08% Protein) and low in Somatic Cell Score (SCS) (2.56). With high semen fertility (+2.6 Sire Conception Rate) he has earned the Superior Settler™ designation. WATSON is a Calving Ease (6.8% DBH) and FeedPRO sire that is available in gender SELECTed™ semen.

MCNUGGETS is also siring the profit-making kind with outstanding NM$ (+660), CM$ (+624), FM$ (+672) and GTPI (+2105). His exceptional health and fitness traits (2.48 SCS, +6.6 PL, +0.8 Daughter Pregnancy Rate) earn him the HealthMark designation. Although no longer a member of Select Sires’ active lineup, BRONCO’s influence can still be seen today. His maternal brother, 7HO10277 End-Road Bolton BRANCH-ET (EX-94) was an August 2013 graduate. A member of the same graduating class, 7HO10502 Touchdown Planet BACON-ET is a 7HO8081 Ensenada Taboo PLANET-ET (EX-90-GM) son of BRONCO’s maternal sister.
