RobotThe DeLaval teat spray robot (TSR™) is one of the first fully automatic teat spray solutions for dairy farms with rotaries. In September 2015, it won the Dairy Herd Management Innovative Product Award which was presented at World Dairy Expo in Madison,Wisconsin. This award and the TSR's success on existing US farms are believed to be two of the reasons for the continued growth in sales. The TSR™ with DeLaval's parallel rotaries is the way to optimise large herd dairy farming by significantly reducing labour costs as well as safeguarding milk quality.

DeLaval TSR™ provides an automatic, accurate, consistent and cost-effective method of teat spraying before and after milking, covering up to 400 cows per hour. Due to the high level of accuracy, better udder health and milk quality are achieved while increasing labour efficiency to upward of 200 cows.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer dairy farmers a way to further drive down costs without compromising spray performance. In today's environment, this is critical. One of the main costs on a farm is labour and by using the DeLaval TSR, farmers can save in this area," says Robert Jensen, business development manager at DeLaval. "Since we launched the TSR last year we have seen a growing interest in Europe, North America and most recently in China and we have now more than 30 TSR units sold worldwide."

The award-winning DeLaval TSR™ is particularly useful for large herds. The standalone unit is based on an industrial robot system that easily can be installed in both new and existing external rotaries. A TSR can easily be installed on a parallel rotary. This installation will not affect the milking operations. The settings allow for each teat to be sprayed accurately with drop formation at the teat canal, minimal wastage of teat disinfectants, as well as an "all-round" sprayed teat with good coverage of the teat surface. The spray image can be adapted to the needs of the operation and usage of the teat dip can be optimised for pre- and post application.

The use of the DeLaval teat spray robot TSR™- in combination with the sprayable teat dips offered by DeLaval, provide a range of advantages:

  • Ensure udder health and teat condition - Each teat is thoroughly covered with teat disinfectant.

  • Uniform application - The teats are sprayed identically each time with high accuracy

  • Profitability - The optimised consumption of teat disinfectants, low service costs and the elimination of labour recoup the investment (depending on the number to be milked cows) in 1.5 to 5 years.
