Board of Directors adds two new members



Pennsylvania Department of AgricultureShowcasing top dairy cattle from across the nation, the 52nd All-American Dairy Show is slated for September 12-17. The multi-day event will take place at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.

This year's show schedule has been adjusted from past years. The Pennsylvania All-American Jersey Show at Harrisburg will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, starting with calves, heifers and dry cows. The Jersey cow classes will be placed on Wednesday, September 16, at 8 a.m. The All-American Brown Swiss show will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday with all young stock and dry cows. The Brown Swiss milking cow classes will be evaluated at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 17.

Two new members join the PA Dairy & Allied Industries Association, the governing board of the All-American Dairy Show: Allen Hess of Smithsburg, Md., and Bryant Hlavaty of Lititz, Lancaster County.

An active Milking Shorthorn breeder and an officer of the Mid-Atlantic Milking Shorthorn Society, Hess will be serving on the board as the Milking Shorthorn representative. He works as a housing specialist for a nonprofit agency. For more than 10 years, Hess has been a class sponsor and exhibitor at the All-American Dairy Show.

Longtime All-American exhibitor Hlavaty will represent the allied industries as a member of the board. He is currently a nutritionist for Cargill, one of the premier sponsors of the All-American Dairy Show. It is a top priority for Hlavaty for the show to remain a continued success.

Also new this year, a wine and cheese reception sponsored by Immucell will take place on Wednesday, September 16, at 5 p.m. in the Dairy Activity Center.

The entry deadline for the 2015 All-American Dairy Show and the Premier National Dairy Junior Show is August 14. Late entries will be accepted through August 28. All entries will be accepted online at www.allamerican.state.pa.us.

The All-American Dairy Show features 22 shows in six days in addition to the nation's only all-dairy antiques show. Last year's show featured nearly 3,000 animals and 1,500 exhibitors from around the country.
