Event offers insight, strategies to help dairy clients improve profitability



Center for Dairy Excellence logoA full conference program brochure and registration information is now available for the fourth annual Dairy Financial and Risk Management Conference, being held on Tuesday, September 23, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Central Penn Business Conference, located at 600 Valley Road, Summerdale, Pa., just outside of Harrisburg. The Center for Dairy Excellence hosts this event annually to provide dairy lenders and financial consultants with insight and strategies to help their dairy clients improve profitability.

"This is a great event for those who work with dairy farm families to gain greater understanding about the volatility of the dairy market," said Alan Zepp, risk management program manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence. "We have three exceptional speakers discussing topics at the conference that will give insight into maximizing their bottom line."

The conference's keynote speaker is Greg Bethard, Ph.D.,(right) who will draw on his experience as a management consultant to dairy farms around the world to guide Pennsylvania lenders on which benchmarks to put their focus. He will also share his first hand perspective on the international dairy industry.

Mark StephensonDr. Mark Stephenson (left), the director of dairy policy analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is well respected for his research on milk assembly and processing costs and efficiencies, as well as dairy policy. Dr. Chuck Nicholson (bottom right), clinical associate professor with Penn State Smeal College of Business, has developed numerous economic models to analyze dairy price cycles, origins and policy responses to price variability. Dr. Stephenson and Dr. Nicholson will discuss the new federal dairy policy and its implications for the industry.
