The Dairy Girl Network (DGN) recently elected Laura Daniels as president of the organization for women involved with dairy farming and dairy related businesses. Daniels founded the fast-growing national organization that began three years ago through a small group of women meeting for dinner. At the recent World Dairy Expo, 165 women attended the Dairy Girl Networking Event and many other women from the more than 2,000-membership organization expressed their desire to be there.

"Women who are passionate about dairy need more chances for entry-level leadership on-farm and in organizations," Daniels stated. " The Dairy Girl Network is about helping women achieve their goals whatever they might be. It is our vision to enhance the lives of dairywomen through personal development and encouragement offered by this strong network."

Laura Daniels is the general manager of Heartwood Farm, a Jersey dairy herd located in Cobb, Wis., owned in partnership with husband Jarred Searls. She also does consulting in the areas of dairy nutrition, labor management and team building for Star Blends in Sparta, Wis.

The Dairy Girl Network Board of Directors met for the first-ever annual meeting in Madison, Wis. and approved the DGN Articles of Incorporation. Once the documents are filed, DGN will be an official non-profit organization.

During a news conference at World Dairy Expo, Diamond V announced their commitment as a Vision Sponsor and joined the top sponsorship level which also includes DairyBusiness Communications, DGN's founding media partner.

"Women in dairy need a strong network to lean on," said Kristy Pagel, representing Diamond V. "Opening career opportunities for women is important and Diamond V believes in helping DGN to provide these programs."

Available to women dairy farmers and industry partners, the Dairy Girl Network is supported by founding sponsors: DairyBusiness Communications, Diamond V, ImmuCell, Elanco and Land O'Lakes.
