Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) would like to echo the appreciation of Ontario dairy farmers for the support demonstrated with the federal government investing $3 million towards the world-class research and innovation centre being built at the University of Guelph. Announced by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz last night at the Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) meeting, this public-private partnership, spearheaded by DFO, is designed to address the research, education and training needs and priorities of the dairy sector to pursue new opportunities for the next several decades.
"Advancement in research in various aspects of the dairy industry is important for dairy farmers and the industry," said Wally Smith, DFC president. "Canadian dairy farmers are committed to caring for future generations today. We are continually driving innovation in dairy by investing to enhance sustainability, animal care, animal nutrition and genetics, and learning more about the nutritional attributes of dairy products for humans. Innovation sustains a strong dairy industry across Canada. We are pleased that the federal government once again has recognized the dairy sector as a major contributor to the economic growth of Canada."
