Dairy Farmers of America's (DFA) Turlock, Calif., facility recently claimed first place in the part skim mozzarella cheese category at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest in Milwaukee, Wis., the largest cheese, butter and yogurt competition in the United States.

This year's record-breaking 1,885 entries were sniffed, tasted and examined by 32 dairy product testing experts to select gold, silver and bronze medalists in 90 categories. Winners from around the nation will travel to Madison, Wis., to receive their awards during the Wisconsin Cheese Industry Conference in April.

"It's an honor to be recognized by the nation's largest cheese competition, and we are especially humbled that our products were chosen from a record number of entries," said Doug Glade, executive vice president of commercial operations. "This award reinforces our Cooperative-wide commitment to quality, from our member farms to our manufacturing facilities. We are proud to offer wholesome, high-quality dairy products to our customers and consumers around the world."

In addition, DFA's Winnsboro, Texas, facility also earned recognition, earning third place for its unsalted butter. DFA-owned Kemps was recognized in the cottage cheese category, taking both the second and third place titles.

Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association has hosted the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest for 34 years.
