2015 Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Reproduction Awards Presented at DCRC Annual Meeting
The Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council is pleased to announce that its 2015 Reproduction Awards were presented at its Annual Meeting in Buffalo, New York, November 11 -- 13.From its inception in 2009, the Reproduction Awards Program has highlighted producers with remarkable abilities to achieve outstanding reproductive performance, and this year's contest continues that tradition of excellence. More than 80 herds were nominated for this year's contest and judges used strict performance criteria to winnow down the entries.
The six Platinum Award winners for 2015 all emphasize quality, compliance, cow comfort, proper nutrition and consistency on their dairies. As a result, the farms reached annual 21-day pregnancy rates from 32% to a DCRC Reproduction Award contest high of 39%. Awards were also given for Gold, Silver and Bronze winners. In total, 24 awards were granted this year, six in each category.
"The winners for 2015 represent 11 states and two countries," notes Todd Bilby, DCRC Awards Program Committee Chair. "We received a record number of entries this year, all with exceptional reproductive performance. It's fantastic to see this level of reproductive achievement represented. Producers have significantly stepped-up their reproductive programs and the superior results illustrated by our participants reflect this achievement."
This year, DCRC partnered with Hoard's Dairyman for the Reproduction Awards Program. "It's a great team effort," says Corey Geiger, managing editor of Hoard's Dairyman. "Hoard's Dairyman is proud to support this program and DCRC, as well as support the dairy industry in its quest to improve reproductive performance."
Platinum, Gold and Silver winners received a travel stipend for the DCRC Annual Meeting, and all herds received certificates noting their achievement. Special gifts honoring the winners were also awarded.
