Danielle LindquistThe Dairy Calf and Heifer Association (DCHA) is pleased to announce that Danielle Lindquist of Cary, N.C., is the 2015 scholarship recipient. A strong passion for the dairy calf and heifer industry is one of the many reasons Danielle was chosen for the annual $1,000 scholarship.

Lindquist was selected from a competitive pool of applicants based on: leadership, letter of recommendation, scholastic achievement, extracurricular and industry involvement, career goals, future involvement in the dairy calf and heifer industry and ideas to increase student participation in the association.

A student at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Lindquist is pursuing her DVM in food animal medicine and a Ph.D. in calf pharmacology.

"I have yet to meet another student as confident in their career choice and as dedicated to the pursuit of achieving their goals as Danielle Lindquist," says Dr. Harrison Dudley, clinical professor at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Upon graduation Lindquist plans to pursue a career in research, clinical medicine and dairy calf consulting.

"As a trained clinician in ruminant medicine with a research focus on the health and welfare of dairy calves, my goals include promoting and enhancing the dairy industry, specifically bridging the communication gaps and collaboration between the academics of medicine, producers, consumers and regulatory officials," says Lindquist.

Lindquist's outstanding application and qualifications are a testament to the bright future of the dairy industry.

"When I received the news that I had been selected for this scholarship, I was not only excited but humbled," says Lindquist. "The members of the Dairy Calf and Heifer Association are all extraordinary examples of what embodies this organization: dedication, passion and leadership. As a self-proclaimed ‘city kid' who did not even know what FFA even stood for growing up, I am truly humbled to be awarded this scholarship from the Dairy Calf and Heifer Association."

Lindquist was honored at the 2015 Dairy Calf and Heifer Association Annual Conference in Madison, Wis.
