Center for Dairy Excellence logoThe Center for Dairy Excellence has named Don McNutt as Dairy Planning Coordinator as of July 2014. In his new role, McNutt will serve as a resource to dairy farms planning for new or improved facilities. McNutt will be instrumental in coordinating dairy planning teams across Pennsylvania and assisting farms in working through the planning process, especially where a higher level of permitting will be required.

Center for Dairy Excellence Don McNutt"As farm families across Pennsylvania look to modernize or expand their dairy operations, the Center for Dairy Excellence wants to be a resource in helping them accomplish their goals," John Frey, executive director for the Center for Dairy Excellence states, "Don represents the integrity and expertise we are looking for as an organization to provide that additional level of support."

Before his retirement this year, McNutt was head of the Lancaster County Conservation District. In that role, McNutt has successfully fulfilled some of his industry goals. Among them were forming a nonprofit Conservation Foundation of Lancaster County and helping to secure funds to help producers implement conservation management practices to their business.

"I'm excited to be here at the center to take part in moving the dairy industry forward and to be stepping back into the production side and away from the regulatory side," McNutt said. "I'm anxious to take part in the new dairy industry with what I see coming in the future."

McNutt was born and raised on a family dairy farm in Indiana County, Pa., and his family embraced advancements in technology starting back in 1962 when they built one of the first double three parlors in the area. After high school, he attended Penn State and went on to teach Agricultural Science and Mechanics for 25 years in southeast Pennsylvania. After his teaching career, he started working with the Lancaster County Conservation District in 2000.

McNutt is married 42 years to his wife Karen and together they have three children, Eric, Neal and Lauren, and six grandchildren that bring a great deal of joy to the family.
