Zepp provides snapshot of today's dairy fundamentals and possible price opportunities

Alan ZeppThe July 29 "Protecting Your Profits" conference call will start at noon and provide an overview on the current dairy industry trends and markets. Alan Zepp, risk management program manager for the Center for Dairy Excellence, who authors the Markets and Management Update, published in Farmshine, will host the call.

U.S. powder prices continue to fall to the world price. Domestic demand for butter and cheese is currently supporting the Class III milk price at a much higher level than the world butter or cheese price would provide. How long can this trend continue?

Those who purchased $8.00 MPP coverage for $0.47/ cwt will recover some of their premium since the March/April MPP margin closed at just over $7.50. The May/June margin will be around $7.75. Many of the farms that bought LGM-Dairy policies last July through October have received or are anticipating indemnity payments. Check with your crop insurance agent to confirm your policy status.

We will ask the question "What should we do now?" as we discuss markets, margins and bring you up-to-date on LGM-Dairy and MPP results during the next "Protecting Your Profits" conference call on Wednesday, July 29 at noon. These conference calls are free, but registration is needed to obtain the call information.
