The Center for Dairy Excellence Foundation of Pennsylvania is passionate about creating opportunities to develop the next generation of the dairy industry in order to ensure its strength for the future. The Foundation, along with Professional Dairy Managers of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association, invites students and farms to participate in the On-Farm Internship Program. This internship program gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a host farm who is committed to mentoring and teaching the next generation.

"The On Farm Internship has been a transforming experience in the lives of those young people who have participated in this program," John Frey, executive director of the Center for Dairy Excellence said. "Few industry experiences match this opportunity to learn dairy management best practices outside of the home farm."

Scholarships of $2,000 are available to students to participate in on-farm internships. Interested farms and students are required to apply for the program. The program offsets the cost of the 10-12 week internship, providing farms with highly skilled interns interested in dairy production and offering the students an internship competitive with those offered by allied industries.

For more information, guidelines and online applications, go www.centerfordairyexcellence.org, click on the "Students and Educators" tab, then click on the "On-Farm Internships" sidebar tab. More information can also be obtained by contacting Melissa Anderson, dairy programs and operations coordinator at the center, by calling 717-346-0849 or emailing manderson@centerfordairyexcellence.org.

Applications are due to the center by January 18. Those accepted will be notified of next steps for involvement in the program in February.
