AnimartANIMART, Inc. hosted their first continuing education (CE) course for certified veterinary technicians (CVTs) on June 6, 2014 highlighting calf care. CVTs spent the morning learning about calf pneumonia, calf Scours, colostrum replacers and practical calf procedures.

The next CE Course hosted by ANIMART will be a calf necropsy lab and will be on Friday, August 29, 2014 starting at 8 a.m. at Globe University – Appleton, 5045 W. Grande Market Dr., Appleton, WI 54913.

"I want to thank ANIMART once again for the continuing education. It is hard to find Large Animal CE credits so close to home," said Brenda Scannell, a CVT who attended the first CE Course at ANIMART. I am looking forward to the necropsy lab in August."

The program instructor is ANIMART's Professional Services Veterinarian, Dr. Vicky Lauer. Lauer has been a member of the ANIMART Professional Services Veterinarian team since September 2013 and in addition to working with producers to improve herd health, she enjoys educating them about the importance of calf health.

"Calf necropsies are one of the most information-rich procedures that can be done on the farm. Unfortunately they are often neglected, and the cause of death remains unknown," said Dr. Lauer. "My goal is to train technicians on the proper way to perform necropsies and collect samples for further diagnostics. They can then present their findings and photographs to the vet, who will diagnose the problem and develop a treatment/control program."

Four continuing education credits will be awarded to CVTs who attend the course in its entirety. For more information, or to register call Andrea Gruber, CVT at (920) 319-4375 or register online by visiting www.animart.com/race. Registrations are due by August 15, 2014. The course has 12 seats available.
