The Washington State Dairy Ambassador program marked its 60th anniversary this year, now a part of our state's rich dairy tradition since 1955. Over the course of the program's history, more than 800 young women have participated -- learning valuable lessons in public speaking and community relations. The Dairy Ambassador serves as a public representative for Washington's dairy industry and its farm-fresh, nutrient-rich products. It is her goal to share information with the people of Washington about dairy's role in our state's economy and its role in a healthy diet.

Meet the 2015 Dairy Ambassador titleholder, Nicole Buell of Marysville (middle). Nicole was crowned at this year's "Diamonds and Tiaras" Washington State Dairy Ambassador Coronation at the Everett Holiday Inn on Saturday, June 27th. One of eight contestants, Nicole is the daughter of Dan and Genie Buell. Nicole has been deeply involved in 4-H, winning several awards for showing dairy cows and holding officer positions. She worked on the Groeneveld family dairy farm and will be graduating from Marsyville Getchell Bio-Med High School as well as Everett Community College. She's done all this while participating in Cross Country, where she served as the team captain during her senior year.

Throughout the course of her tenure as the 2015 Washington State Dairy Ambassador, Nicole will visit schools; attend county and state fairs; appear at Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) events and championships; and address the Washington state legislature to raise awareness of our state's dairy industry. Her year will include over 400 public appearances. After completing her term as Dairy Ambassador, Nicole and her alternates will receive scholarships to continue their education. Nicole plans on becoming a large animal veterinarian.

Amanda Howe (left) and Lydia Johnson (right) were named as 2015 Washinton State Dairy Ambassador Alternates. They will fulfill their own schedule of appearances over the next year and support the State Ambassador in her activities.
