Two Grand Champions, one Reserve Grand of World Dairy Expo's junior show anchor 81st cow judging contest.

The quality runs deep in the 81st Hoard's Dairyman Cow Judging Contest as the 20 contest cows average 91.2 points with the Jerseys leading the pack at just under 94 points. Adding to the quality, the homebred Holsteins and Milking Shorthorn classes feature three 93-point cows. Also included in this year's contest are three Champions from World Dairy Expo's Junior Show: the C Jersey, the 2009 Supreme Champion; the D Milking Shorthorn, the 2010 Grand Champion; and the D Guernsey, the 2009 Reserve Grand Champion.

In order to get cows photographed when looking their best, contest classes are selected by the editors two years in advance of appearing on the cover. We would like to thank Kathy DeBruin at Agri-Graphics for picturing all five classes.

The Brown Swiss are from Olson Dairy of Spring Valley, Minn.

The Holsteins are from the Cook Farm of Hadley, Mass.

The Guernseys are from the Up The Creek Farm of Lester Prairie, Minn.

The Milking Shorthorns are from GMC Farm of Cornish Flat, N.H.

The Jerseys are from River Valley Dairy of Tremont, Ill.

Read all about these herds and the cows in the 2011 Cow Judging Contest on pages 242 & 243 in the April 10, 2011 issue of Hoard's Dairyman.
